Understanding Raw Feeding: FAQs
Curious about raw feeding but unsure where to start?
We’ve gathered answers to the most common questions pet parents ask —
from safety and nutrition to expert opinions and affordability.
Here’s everything you need to know to feed your dog the way nature intended.
What do we consider expensive? Eating 2-3 McDonald burgers might be cheaper than preparing a good homemade meal, does that mean we stop eating fresh and start eating junk food, because it is cheaper? Also "Expensive" is a subjective term, our food, with more than 90% human grade meat, no fillers, is cheaper than RC. And feeding it has saved me and a lot of other pet parents multiple vet visits and medicines. At the same time keeping our dogs at their optimum health, I would argue, that by itself, makes it worth it.
We start puppies right from 45 days onwards, right after they've been weaned off their mother's milk. Raw Food is something extremely natural for dogs, it does not contain any chemicals, preservatives, artificial colours, flavors, fillers etc. It is much easier to digest than it's ultra-processed counterparts (kibble)
It is a myth that a balanced diet need to be balanced every meal. Do we worry if all our meals are completely balanced? Or do we even feed our kids that way? And feeding dogs isn't as complicated as feeding children. Big dog food companies want us to believe that feeding dogs is very complicated and it cannot be done at home.
Variety is the key, each meat, organ, fruits, vegetable, herb and seed has something different to offer our dogs, as long as we give our dogs a healthy rotation of these ingredients, they'll be fine. That does not mean some dogs might not show a deficiency to some nutrient, but, deficiencies also happen on a completely balanced, kibble diet. Hence you'll see vets recommending supplements right from the start.
Cooked bones are not recommended. And Different Bones are used for different purposes. The bones we feed are the softer bones, like the necks, wings, feet, ribs etc. Weight bearing bones are not used in the food and are only recommended for expert chewers as recreational chews.
This is a two step process - Step 1.we make sure all our suppliers have proper cold chain logistics and we only buy meats that are fit for human consumption, and Step 2. Once our products are ready, we blast freezing the food and then keeping it frozen for at least 4 days before shipping it out to the clients.
Salmonella and e-coli are not exclusive to raw meat. The most recalled product for salmonella is Lettuce. But do we see people recommending not to eat lettuce? Salmonella is a result of bad handling practices, we stress our suppliers maintain proper cold chain and hygienic conditions to transport and store the meats and other ingredients.
When handling raw meat, for human consumption or for your dogs, it is necessary to follow basic hygiene protocol. If handling raw meat was dangerous, we would have seen a lot of non-vegetarian households and chefs who handle meats regularly, having bacterial contamination cases.
Dogs are more than capable of handling the bacterial load in raw meat. We need to understand, dogs are not just carnivores, but they were scavengers, most times they used to eat rotting meat left behind from other animals. Also, their saliva contains Lysosome, which protects from bacterial infections, and dogs on a Raw diet, have a gut Ph of 1-2, which is highly acidic, this also helps digest the bones in the food while also killing the bacteria and parasites in the food.
